As part of the IMPACT project to strengthen national and local/community level capacities and scale up community-driven responses to combat and respond to trafficking in persons, IOM collaborated with 'The Fabulous Getaway,' a reputed Tourism service provider, to conduct a series of workshops for key stakeholders in the tourism industry on the risks of human trafficking, identification and referral of victims of trafficking and preventing and reporting the crime.

The first of the series of ten workshops was held today in Colombo with the participation of members ranging from tour operators, tour guides, hotel staff and chauffeurs and covered a wide array of topics, including the indicators of trafficking specific to the tourism industry, legal framework and means of reporting cases to the responsible authorities. Over 400 tourism service providers are expected to be capacitated through these workshops.
