ESTABLISHMENT OF SAFE MIGRATION PROMOTION UNIT (SMPU) AT BANDARANAIKE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

As a further step of NAHTTF, it is planned to establish a Safe Migration Promotion Unit, to combat Human Trafficking in order to facilitate migrants with a safe passage for departure.

On 04 May 2023, the members of the NAHTTF had a discussion on the establishment and future operation of SMPU at BIA. Major General JR Kulathunga, the Chief of National Intelligence/ Chairman to the Coordinating Committee of the NAHTTF chaired the meeting.

The senior officials from Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Immigration and Emmigration, Human Trafficking Smuggling Investigation Maritime Crimes Division were participated at the discussion and other members of NAHTTF joined the discussion online via Zoom.
