AWARENESS SESSION ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING FOR SENIOR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS

On June 14, 2024, a special session on human trafficking was held from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Galle Face Hotel. The event, titled "Awareness Session for Senior Government Officials," was organized by the National Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force (NAHTTF) Sri Lanka and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sri Lanka.

Major General Ruwan Kulatunga RSP psc, the Chief of National Intelligence and Head of the Officials Committee of NAHTTF, opened the session. Senior officials from various government departments and agencies attended.

This session highlighted the importance of tackling human trafficking with a unified and strategic approach. Senior government officials play a crucial role in creating and enforcing policies to combat this issue.

Speakers included Additional Solicitor General Mrs. Harippriya Jayasundara, President Counsel, and State Counsels Ms. Akila Dalpadadu, Mr. Shakthi Jagodaarachchi, and Mr. Sajith Bandara, who shared valuable insights.

The main goal was to inform and raise awareness among top government officials about the serious impact of human trafficking on society and governance.

This event marked an important step in Sri Lanka's fight against human trafficking, showcasing the joint efforts of national and international bodies to protect human rights and strengthen governance.
